Blood...

Today Corrin, our Controller made us all give blood.  It's for a good cause - we all know that - we just don't want to do it!  We had 9 staff members participate (out of 27) with 7 pints collected.  It's a small amount but every bit helps in this time of need.  If you happen to stop by the hotel today you'll get to see everyone walking around with those attractive pink bandages!

Happy Holidays to all!

Employee Holiday Luncheon

We had our annual holiday gift exchange and luncheon today- with a twist- we did it "white elephant" style.  Lots of laughs and lots of fun was had by all.  All the staff brought a dish to pass which led to a pretty impressive display- everything from tacos, to chicken wings, to noodle kugel and cheesecake.  For some reason the most sought after gift was a lamp... don't quite understand that one.  It was great to relax and laugh with all the people we work with!

2nd Holiday Tea

We've just finished up our 2nd Holiday Tea.  It's such a pleasure seeing everyone come through the hotel and warm up with hot cocoa, coffee and tea.  The kids love the Christmas tree and watching the horse-drawn trolley go by.  We had warm scones and holiday cookies so the lobby smelled wonderful!  It looked like the MOST was very busy today, we saw lots of families walking that way.

What a great Saturday for the kids- a trolley ride, afternoon tea at the Jefferson Clinton Hotel and an IMAX experience!

We'll see everyone next week!

1st Holiday Tea

Well the 1st Saturday of the annual holiday program was a great success.  We saw many families take advantage of the free trolley ride throughout Armory Square, enjoying a little bit of history.  We had many guests stop by for afternoon tea, our chef prepared lovely scones with blueberries and applies and cinnamon.  The little ones seemed to prefer hot chocolate to the tea!

Overall it was a lovely winter afternoon for the many people who chose to come down to the square!

We hope to see everyone next Saturday!  Don't forget to bring your skates, you can glide around Clinton Square under the big tree!

Taxi Driver Appreciation Day

News 10 Now

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Jefferson Clinton officials say cab drivers have ultimately helped attract people to both the hotel and to the downtown area. That's why Tuesday is being called "Taxi Appreciation Day."

From 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. cab drivers in Syracuse have been invited to get a free lunch and refreshments at the hotel. Representatives from Mayor Driscoll's office will also be on hand to recognize drivers as the "gatekeepers of the city."

"We're working with the mayor's office. The mayor will issue a proclamation proclaiming Taxi Appreciation Day. And, we recognize here at the Jefferson Clinton Hotel, we recognize the work our local cab drivers do as ambassadors to the city if you will," said the hotel's Irving Lyons Jr.

Drivers we spoke to at the South Salina Street hub are appreciative of the acknowledgement.

Hotel officials say they hope to do this every year.

Taxi Driver Appreciation

by Charley Hannagan

Syracuse Post Standard

Tuesday June 17, 2008, 1:20 PM

Syracuse, NY--About 25 to 30 drivers have shown up so far for a free lunch from the Jefferson Clinton Hotel in recognition of Taxi Appreciation Day.

"Taxi drivers are unappreciated and this is our way of saying 'thank you'," said Timothy Bacon, one of the senior managers of the hotel in downtown Syracuse.

Drivers were treated to sandwiches, soda, coffee and fruit from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday. The hotel doesn't limit its appreciation to one day, Bacon said. The staff often asks drivers who are waiting on guests to have a cup of coffee and a piece of fruit, he said.

Staying Environmentaly Friendly for Guests.

By Christina Chatalian
Wednesday, January 16, 2024 at 6:26 p.m. WSTM

Every day is a Green Day at the historic Jefferson Clinton Hotel. The three star hotel built in 1927 has seen a lot of changes through the years including going green a couple years ago and every day they say they work to find better ways to save the environment and provide a healthier environment for hotel guests. The hotel’s motto is "Healing the planet one guest at a time."

The hotel features non-toxic paint on the walls, hypo-allergic pillows and comforters, natural shampoos and organic toiletries, energy saving light bulbs, and the cleaning staff uses all Green Sealed and Certified Cleaning Products.

Even paper products like toilet paper, paper towels and brochures are from re-cycled paper.

Hotel Owner, Steven Busch of Brandy, Wein & Busch Hospitality, says

“Every decision we make is what is the healthiest option and what can be recycled and how can we improve what we are doing.”

Busch says they have had to shell out a lot of green to go green but the investment is well worth the benefits. Room rates are $169 to $299 but they also offer special discount packages to stay at the hotel.

Sweethearts in Syracuse

2 Mentions for the Jefferson Clinton Hotel!  #1 and #5

The Post Standard, November 25, 2023

Charley Hannagan

Horse-drawn rides through Downtown and ice-skating in Clinton Square started over the Thanksgiving weekend. If those images put you in the mood for romance, here's a list of places Downtown to meet your sweetie and stroll under holiday lights.

1. Spend the night in an historic hotel. Book a suite at the Jefferson Clinton Hotel, formerly the Hawthorne Suites, 416 S. Clinton St., 425-0500, www.jeffersonclintonhawthorn.com. The hotel offers some special packages where the rooms come with wine, truffles or Swedish massages.

2. Ice skate at night under the twinkling lights of the Christmas tree in Clinton Square. The skating rink is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and school breaks, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. The cost is $3 for adults and $1.50 for children under 12. Skate rentals are $3.

3. Try Syracuse's version of a horse-drawn carriage ride through Central Park. The Downtown Committee is providing free tours of downtown with horse-drawn wagon rides - with Santa.

The Armory Square Association is offering free horse-drawn trolley tours of the Walton and Franklin Street area with historian-actor Scott Peal narrating the tour as "Abe Walton, " among the area's first urban visionaries and entrepreneurs.

Ride with Santa through downtown from noon to 3 p.m. every Saturday through Dec. 22; board at the corner of Salina and Washington streets. Ride with Abe through Armory Square noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 15; board at the corner of Franklin and Walton streets.

4. Stroll the shops in Armory Square and stop by Sweet on Chocolate, 215 Walton St., and buy an indulgent truffle for a midday snack.

5. Need a warm-up? Snuggle together in the lobby of the Jefferson Clinton Hotel, which is offering free afternoon tea with hot chocolate and pastries from noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 15. The tea is also sponsored by the Armory Square Association.

6. Stroll through the Delavan Art Gallery, 501 W. Fayette St., 425-7500, www.delavanartgallery.com. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

If you work up an appetite with all that walking, downtown restaurants have plenty of cozy tables for two. And don't worry about making it back to put money in the meter. The city of Syracuse is providing free metered parking in the Central Business District Fridays and Saturdays now through Dec. 29.
